Delegate Frederick Should End Campaign

Since I was able to out Delegate Frederick in his intentions regarding his race for State Chairman, the decision has become obvious. We must retain John Hager as our State Chairman.

I would suggest to Jeff that he announce today he is ending his Chairman campaign and call for unity in the party. He would then be free to focus on his House district and his reelection in 2009. With our majority in the House of Delegates extremely narrow it is imperative that we hold this swing seat. As Jim Riley, a constituent of Jeffs, at Virginia Virtucon comments in a previous post, Jeff is capable of holding this house seat for as long as he wants it. He may be the only person that can keep it in GOP hands.

Come on Jeff do what's right for the party.

A little bit of additional advice, albeit unsolicited. It wouldn't hurt to have Amy Frederick give the Speaker a call and offer to let her letter to him go down as written in the heat of the moment. An apology might keep young Jeff from being reassigned to 2 or 3 committees that never meet.

Lord knows we don't need anyone like Jeff Frederick to Rock an already sinking boat right?

I completely disagree, there are plenty of Conservatives out there that can hold Jeff's seat, it's just a matter of getting them to step forward.

I am starting to become a fan of term limits, where I wasn't before.

Not to be rude, Brandon, but there are a lot of us (including Mr. Frederick) who think it's best for the party that he replace Hager as Chairman. Besides, your prediction (as I recall it) was unconditional, which is not the same thing as his statement.

If we're talking about who shoudl retire for the good of the party, I would humbly submit Howell himself fits that bill.

Oops! That should read "should."

I thought this post might fire you guys up.

I don't think now is the time to take the risk with any swing seat held by a Republican. We have to be smart. In 2007 Senator Colgan wanted to retire but the Dems had him run again to prevent having that seat go to the GOP. It paid off for them in capturing the senate.

I will not say Hager is the perfect choice for chairman. I won't however throw a vote to anyone running just because he isn't the current power establishment. I served with Jeff in the GA and I don't think he has the skills to be an effective chairman.

Don't worry D.J. you aren't being rude.

STD, what does term limits have to do with the chairman's race--just curious?

Give me a break, I can't follow you Mr. Bell. Becouse of one delagate race the whole state party should take a weaker chairman?????? I can understand if you disagree with me that Jeff shouldn't be chairman, but not for this reason. It is becouse Jeff can win hard races that we need him to be chairman. He has proven that he can do what so many Republicans can't seem to do....WIN!!!!! This is not about one of one hundred seats, this is about our whole party. The idea that we should shut up and all sink together is a losing attitude. WE NEED NEW LEADERSHIP.

Yoder,

Holding every seat in 2009 will be critical particularly because of redistricting in 2011.

The bottom line is that I know both Hager and Frederick and I don't believe Jeff would be a better chairman but much worse. Hager isn't perfect but is the better of the two.

It is ok if we disagree on this one!

If Virginia Republicans don't want Goode and Goodlatte redistricted into the same District, they better be very careful about giving away too many more seats.

I agree, we do need every seat. I do respect your opinion and can agree to disagree. I guess as a young guy I am drawn toward the candidate who seems to have the most energy. I also was very impressed when Jeff attended the ninth district convention. Its not often some one important comes out to sw va.
